Welcome to the River School Blog!
We at River School are fortunate to be a part of a thriving community in Jersey City. There are many activities for toddlers in the area, and all the excitement of New York is just a short train ride away. If you are new to the area, or are just looking for some of the best this great city has to offer, get ready. We have put together a list of 5 of our favorite things to do in Jersey City that you can do with your toddler. Enjoy!
During the warmer months there are eight different markets available throughout the city, including Van Vorst Park, Hamilton Park, Newport Mall, Grove Street, Journal Square, Paulus Hook, Riverview Fisk Park, and Bramhall Farmers Market. Encourage your child to ask questions about how the food was grown as well as to explore and try new foods.
The Liberty Science Center has all sorts of activities for even the tiniest tots such as I Explore, which is just for children ages two through five. They’ll love playing outdoors in the Wildlife Challenge or navigating the Touch Tunnel. You can even watch an IMAX movie, which often features great kid-friendly flicks like “Island of Lemurs: Madagascar.”
Who doesn’t like ice cream? At Torico, you can even try exotic flavors like papaya and lychee, or stick with the classics like strawberry cheesecake or vanilla peanut butter.
Every Wednesday through September 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Grove Street PATH Plaza you can Groove on Grove and listen to live bands – your toddler will love dancing with you to the music!
On those sizzling hot and steamy days, there are few better ways to spend it than cooling off in one of the city’s public pools. Pershing Field Pool is open year-round while Pavonia and Lafayette Pools are open during the summer months. All three have websites on which you can check for open swim schedules.
Of course, if you want your toddler to spend time with kids of a similar age while enjoying fun activities like this, our Jersey City preschool offers all types of activities, including collaborating with cultural institutions nearby for museum visits, educational programs, as well as all types of field trips. Sign your child up now, classes start again in September!
