Welcome to the River School Blog!

Semu and Africa

During October, River School’s pre-k classroom, the Giraffes, developed and presented a musical story performance called “Semu and Africa.” They wrapped up their first music unit of the school year – exploring tempo and the music and culture of West Africa. In addition to experimenting with new instruments and movements, the Giraffes were able to create costumes and prepare a performance to remind all of our River School children and families that it is okay to “dance your own way.”

The Giraffes and the audience used their imaginations to transport to the Savannah, becoming dancing animals and working villagers. “Semu and Africa” was a fun and engaging way to remind everyone that it is okay to be unique. At the end of the performance, the audience even joined in by singing “Ah Bo Ma Ma Bo Ma A- I love to dance! I can’t stop dancing!” At River School, we love to dance and can’t stop dancing! We will dance anywhere!
