Welcome to the River School Blog!
This month children from our Upper West Side preschool location went on a field trip to the Natural History Museum. The highlight of the trip was the Butterfly Exhibit! The children were MEZMERIZED by the hundreds of colorful butterflies fluttering about. The Natural History Museum has over 53 different types of butterflies including Zebra Longwing, Monarch, and the Blue Morpho.
In preparation for the visit the children began investigating the life cycle of a butterfly. They compared the eggs of many different species to find out that butterflies lay many small eggs onto a leaf. They designed their own replicas of this by cutting out a leaf shape and drawing eggs on the leaves using chalk.
It was a great experience and a few students were lucky enough to have butterflies land on them to say hello!
