A Parent Workshop in Play

River School Parents at Play WorkshopOne of the nice bonuses of sending your children to a private preschool in NYC is parent involvement. We at River School love to have parents and families involved in the learning. One of the ways we do this is by having Parent Workshops. This month we held a workshop on the purpose of play, lead by Jean Schreiber. Jean earned her Masters in Education and has been developing and directing early childhood education programs for over two decades. The parents had a great time and even played with some homemade play-dough. We are so thankful to Jean and the parents for coming out and making the night a success, we look forward to more programs like this in the future.

River School’s Annual Performance Festival Is Around the Corner

River School Performance Festival Square DanceOne of our biggest events of the year is right around the corner! Our Annual Performance Festival will be taking place Friday March 27th. All River School families are encouraged to come and watch performances from all of the children from our tiniest Tiny Tigers to our tallest Giraffes. Our youngest children will be wearing shirts that feature art they made and our older children will be taking part in skits, songs and dances. The event will be capped off with a Square Dance! The children will show off what they have learned this month as they discovered country music with Mr. John.

River School offers programs for children from 8 weeks through 6 years of age. From infant care to pre-k, we offer private programs in Jersey City and NYC with rolling admissions. You can sign your child up today and they can start as early as tomorrow!

River School Hosts a Special Musical Visitor

Being a private preschool in NYC has its perks. Our NYC location is in one of the major hubs for art and culture in the world. We are very fortunate in this regard and we love to take advantage of all this great city has to offer whenever we can.

When we finished our study of Chinese music and our celebration of the Lunar New Year, we wanted to bring the entire experience to life for the children. What better way to do this than with a traditional Chinese dance! Shally Zhang joined us earlier this month on March 2nd to help us learn and celebrate. Miss. Shally studied at the Beijing Dance Academy and later became a member of the National Ballet of China. Currently she is the Director of the Ying Dance Center in New York. The performance itself was nothing short of spectacular and the parents and children were enthralled the entire time. We are so thankful to Miss. Shally for sharing her talent.

River School Celebrates Dr. Suess’s Birthday

River School celebrated dr. suess's birthdayOn March 2nd, our little River Schoolers celebrated the birthday of Dr. Suess! Besides enjoying books by Dr. Suess, the children created their own rhyming stories. Later in the month we will also be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a green bagel breakfast that all of our River School families are invited to. In honor of one of our favorite authors at River School, here is Dr. Suess’s Happy Birthday To You.

If we didn’t have birthdays,
you wouldn’t be you.
If you’d never been born,
well then what would you do?
If you’d never been born,
well then what would you be?
You might be a fish!
Or a toad in a tree!
You might be a doorknob!
Or three baked potatoes!
You might be a bag full of
hard green tomatoes.

Or worse than all that…
Why, you might be a WASN’T!
A Wasn’t has no fun at all.
No, he doesn’t.

A Wasn’t just isn’t. He just
isn’t present. But you…
You ARE YOU!
And, now isn’t that pleasant!

Dr. Suess would be happy he is still positively affecting so many children in schools for toddlers nationwide.
