River Schoolers Learn to Ice Skate

River School's took it's Upper West Side preschool students to learn to ice skate at Wolman Skating Rink

There are a bevy of fun winter activities and one of our favorites is ice-skating! This month we took our pre-k class to Wollman Skating Rink in the southern part of Central Park to learn the basics of ice-skating!

The children were so excited to get bundled up and go out on the ice. The going was slow, but we had a great instructor who taught the children about safety on the ice, as well as how to glide around. Some children were comfortable on the wall and others were already gliding around like little professionals. We may have some future Olympians among our Giraffes.

Exciting special activities like this help make River School the great private Upper West Side preschool that it is. We currently have openings for 3 and 4 year olds at our New York location. Sign them up today and your child can get started as early as tomorrow!

It’s Time to Start Planning for Summer Camp

It may be hard to think about summer as you put on your scarf, hat and gloves, but it’s time to start planning for what your children will be doing come summer time. Camp fairs will be going on throughout January and February, and it’s a great time to learn about the different programs available to your children.

Have you considered River School’s Summer Camp Program?

We offer full day programs 2, 3 or 5 days a week throughout the summer. Whether your children are students during the year, or if they just join us for the summer, they will quickly integrate and be part of our big summer family. Activities change from year to year, but some of the things your child can look forward to include swimming lessons, soccer lessons, nature exploration, drama and field trips!

Just like our other programs, our summer camp offers rolling admissions but spots are limited. Signing up early will give you the peace of mind that your child will have a spot locked in to River School’s “Summer Fun Program”.

Getting Your Child Into the Right Private Preschool or School for Toddlers

Parents looking to get their children into a private preschool or a school for toddlers know just how daunting the task is. The forms, the selectivity, the waiting – it can become very overwhelming, especially now that the application deadline is approaching. You wouldn’t expect that finding a school for 3 and 4 year olds would be as difficult as getting into an Ivy League University, but it often seems that way.

Don’t get discouraged! There are some great private preschool options that you may not even have thought about. River School for example is one of the few schools for toddlers and 3 and 4 year olds that offers rolling admissions. We don’t have deadlines, and we certainly don’t want to cause you any undue stress. With River School you are able to take a tour, fill out an application, and have your child start as early as the next day!

When dealing with the stress of applying to preschools in New York City, there are a few steps you should keep in mind.

  1. Breathe – Take a deep breath. There are some great options out there that you and your child will be very happy with.
  2. Talk with Friends and Family – You aren’t the only one going through this. Everyone is!
  3. Visit – Learn more about our programs. We have openings for children 8 weeks through 6 years of age. Take a tour, fill out an application, and get your child started on the road to success.
